Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I adopt a Kazakh Russian Blues kitten/adult?
You can fill out our Adoption Application Form online or send us an email at kazakh.rb@gmail.com if you would like to reserve a kitten or adopt an adult from Kazakh Russian Blues. We will review your application/inquiry and get back to you for further discussion.
Typically, there is a wait for a Russian Blue from a quality cattery. To ensure that our kittens/adults go to the best homes, we will review all the applications we receive, and only move forward with families that we think would be a good match with our kittens/adults. Once the preliminary screening is done, we will provide more details on next steps via email.
If you don’t hear back from us within a week after the initial inquiry, please don’t hesitate to email us again.
Q: Where is Kazakh Russian Blues located? Do you ship to other states?
We live in central Kentucky, about one hour drive from Cincinnati, OH and Louisville, KY.
Pet in-cabin courier service can be arranged if you live too far away to pick up the kitten(s)/adult(s) in person. There will be an additional cost for the service and it may vary based on your location.
Q: Is the Russian Blue hypoallergenic?
The answer is NO. There have been rumors claiming that Russian Blues are hypoallergenic, but it is NOT true! Russian Blues produce allergens that cause cat allergies, just like any other cats do. As a breeder who has been working with this breed for decades, Russian Blues are no exception. If a cat allergy is suspected, it is recommended that allergy testing by an allergist (MD) be done before getting a cat.
Q: Is Russian Blue the right breed for me?
Choosing the right breed of cat depends on several factors such as your lifestyle, preferences, and living situation. Here are some considerations to help you decide if a Russian Blue might be the right breed for you:
Temperament: Russian Blues are known for being gentle, quiet, and reserved cats. They tend to be shy or cautious around strangers but form strong bonds with their owners. If you're looking for a cat that is affectionate but not overly demanding of attention, a Russian Blue might be a good fit.
Activity level: They are moderately active cats. While they enjoy playtime, they are not as hyperactive as some other breeds. If you have time to engage in interactive play sessions and provide them with toys, they should be content.
Grooming: Russian Blues have short, dense fur that is relatively low-shedding compared to long-haired breeds. They still require regular grooming to prevent matting and to keep their coat in good condition.
Environment: They adapt well to indoor living and are generally suited to apartment or house living. They appreciate having a quiet space where they can retreat and feel safe.
Health considerations: It is our experience with the Russian Blue breed that this is generally a healthy and long lived breed. As in people, some cats may develop health problems which cannot be predicted. It's important to choose a reputable breeder who knows the health history of the lines and makes intelligent decisions for the future of their breeding program.
Ultimately, the decision depends on your personal preferences and lifestyle. If you resonate with the characteristics of the Russian Blue and are willing to provide the care and attention they need, they can make wonderful companions.
